HOTEL SIS PINS - NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

Hotel Sis Pins is without doubt one of the most charming hotels in Pollensa.  Guests return time and time again to enjoy the warmth and welcome.

We are always striving to make improvements to the hotel and I am pleased to post the following photographs showing the changes we have recently made to the hotel.

Geoff Hopkins, owner of Hotel Sis Pins, said "We are having a fantastic season, welcoming old and new guests to the hotel.  I have to commend the hard work or our staff who have provided the hotel with high quality services for so many years.  We continuously strive to make improvements to the hotel, which we hope will make our guests feel more comfortable during their stay".

HOTEL SIS PINS CELEBRATES IT'S DIAMOND JUBILEE YEAR

Not only is the Queen celebrating a special 60 year reign, but Hotel Sis Pins is also celebrating 60 years since its doors opened in 1952.

We are keen to track down any of our earliest guests and those guests who have been visiting the hotel for the longest period of time.  We would welcome any photographs or stories that you would be willing to share with us.

Among the many guests that have stayed with us, legend has it that Agatha Christie once stayed at Sis Pins whilst writing the novel 'Problem at Pollensa Bay'.

We also believe that 'Cobbled Street' star William Roache, more commonly known as Ken Barlow spent his honeymoon at Hotel Sis Pins.  The longest serving cast member had a special event of his own last week when he celebrated his 80th Birthday.

To mark our 60 years, we have a summer of celebrations and hope you will follow our events online.......

BATTLING DAVE WINS A DREAM BEACH HOTEL BREAK THANKS TO THE SIS PINS HOTEL

Brave cancer-battler Dave Lovelady is looking forward to a fantastic sunshine break after helping top Majorca beach hotel Sis Pins make its welcome to guests even more wonderful.

Former power station worker Dave, from Ormskirk in West Lancashire, has had two bone marrow transplants in his fight against the disease.

And he has defied all the experts, who gave him five years to live a decade ago. He and his wife Jan will jet out to the Sis Pins beach hotel, Majorca, on the seafront in Port de Pollença for their free break in September.

They will enjoy a seven day break at the top hotel after winning a competition at Sis Pins last year to say what they liked most about the hotel.

Cappuccino’s café/restaurant, on the Sis Pins beach front terrace, will also provide a complimentary meal for each of the lucky winners.

Part of the renowned CAPPUCCINO Grand Café chain, it gives customers the chance to enjoy captivating views and top quality food and drink, whether they are seated inside or outside on the fabulous terrace overlooking the sea.

More than 500 entries were received and Dave and Jan’s innovative comments ensured them a winning entry.

They were wowed by the new flexible breakfast menu and praised the staff’s charming and sunny personalities and the hotel’s beautiful location.

Dave said: “We had a tremendous time at our earlier stay at Sis Pins and we can’t wait to get back and enjoy its hospitality once again.

“It really is in a superb position on the beach and the staff are so very friendly and helpful.”

Dave, who has just celebrated his 57th birthday, was a maintenance fitter in power stations. He had his second bone marrow transplant a decade ago.

He said: “I feel very lucky. I was given four or five years to live by the doctors but I’ve proved them all wrong.

“In fact we have had to change the date of our stay at Sis Pins so that we will be here for the big event."

Geoff Hopkins of Sis Pins said: “Dave and Jan are worthy winners of our competition and we are delighted that they will be returning as our guests.

“We are committed to continually improving our service and to making every guest’s stay a truly special experience.

“That is why we decided on this competition. We want to know what people think of us and to take on board their suggestions.

“Our three winners were chosen for the standard of their response. They really did make the most helpful of suggestions to us, which is great.

“I’m sure Dave and Jan will see when they arrive that the fabulous service they received on their last stay is even better now as a result.”

Search On For First Scottish Tourists To Help Celebrate Hotels 50th Anniversary

One of the first group of sunseekers to leave Scotland and fly to Mallorca is being sought to help the hotel where they stayed celebrate its 50th year of hosting package holidaymakers. Records at the Sis Pins Hotel in Port de Pollença show that the group of cycling enthusiasts from Glasgow were the first foreign package holiday tourists to stay there – in the summer of 1961. Now bosses at the hotel – where Agatha Christie is believed to have stayed whilst writing the novel ‘Problem at Pollensa Bay’ – want the tourists to recount their memories of the holiday, as part of next year’s anniversary. And they have even offered them a free one-week holiday so they can join in the celebrations.

Old photographs were discovered during refurbishment work for the hotel’s new, CAPPUCCINO restaurant and bar, which will open next year to coincide with the anniversary. The returning holidaymakers will be able to enjoy a celebratory drink on a private terrace at the idyllic seafront hotel, where they can relax and soak in one of the most privileged views on the island from a comfortable sun lounger a few metres away from the water’s edge. One of the hotel’s owners, Geoff Hopkins, from Blackpool/Yorkshire, said that guest lists from 1961 appeared to indicate that a group of nine guests from the Glasgow area had flown in from Manchester Airport. Records detailing their addresses have been lost, but two pictures taken at the time refer to Scottish guests enjoying the sunshine. The grainy images show some of the Scottish tourists relaxing on a sun terrace opposite the hotel and sitting in the shade of the six pine trees, which gave the hotel its name. Geoff added:

Apparently, they were all cycling enthusiasts and did some cycling while they were here. In the years since their visit, Mallorca has developed a wonderful reputation as a cycling holiday destination, so they were pioneers in that respect. Obviously, many of this group of friends will probably be in their 70s now, but the offer of a free one-week stay to recount their memories of the hotel at that time is there for them.  We hope they will be able to join us and enjoy the celebrations. I have a list of their names, so if anyone recognises any of the people on the photographs and can provide me with the names to match our records then I would love to hear from them.

The Sis Pins, which opened its doors in 1952, is one of the most enchanting and historical hotels in the area. It has become a firm favourite for Scottish tourists ever since and is also well known amongst painters, poets, writers and travellers from all over the world. The anniversary coincides with the opening of the new CAPPUCCINO Port de Pollença, which will be open from early in the morning until the small hours. Part of the renowned CAPPUCCINO Grand Café chain, the new establishment will be the largest the Mallorcan restaurant firm runs on the island. The menu will include tasty breakfasts made with natural products, sandwiches, salads, delicious pastas, hamburgers, meats, homemade baked goods, an extensive selection of coffees and infusions, as well as a wide variety of delicious cocktails. And the Sis Pins will also house the island’s second Tahini Sushi Bar & Restaurant, with the best Japanese food and the best sushi on the island. The opening is part of a major expansion by the CAPPUCCINO Grand Café chain, which plans to set up 25 similar operations in the Middle East, North Africa and India, as well as further openings on the Spanish mainland.

Juan Picornell is the main shareholder of the Cappuccino Group, which started in 1992.  The company currently has 12 Grand Café Bar and Restaurants, plus one Sushi Bar and Restaurant, and employs around 500 staff. The Sis Pins is owned by a group of business people, including Geoff Hopkins and former Slumberland boss Peter Buckley.  They bought the hotel earlier this year and have since built its reputation as the number one hotel in Port de Pollença on holiday review site Tripadvisor.co.uk, even beating some of the four and five-star establishments.
